Product Description

Bake crisp, bubbly pizzas in a fraction of the time with this 16lbs ultra-conductive 16" x 14.25" x .25" pizza steel. If you love wood-fired pizza, now you can get the same blistered crust at home with a Made in the USA Artisan Steel. Your Artisan Steel baking surface is even more conductive than the stone floor of a wood-fired oven, and can transfer heat so efficiently, you’ll soon be turning out beautiful pies with unbelievable crust in under 10 minutes.

More than a pizza stone, can be used frozen for cold serving, or to prepare cold slab ice cream. Works perfectly at moderate heat for baking rustic breads. You can even try baking pizza or roasting vegetables on it in your barbecue!

Packaging Content: Your Artisan Steel will arrive inside cardboard packaging with a thin sheet of parchment paper on both sides of the unit & step-by-step instructions on ongoing use and care.
Out of the box, the surface of your Artisan Steel will have slight variations due to our hand finishing process with food safe oil applied to protect the surface during storage and transit. Thoroughly wash prior to first use as laid out in instructions in the box. Once used, your Artisan Steel will darken from high temperatures, developing a rich, beautiful patina. For lifelong baking…Clean with water and a stiff brush (no soap needed!) after use, dry immediately with a lint-free cloth or paper towel and season by swiping on a light coat of cooking oil. Re-season as needed by scrubbing and washing thoroughly with a mild soap, seasoning as usual and baking at 375°F for one hour.

Artisan Steel for the win!

Artisan Steel for the win!
Warm wash and scrub right out of the box. Dried with linen towel. Then applied a vegetable oil wipe using paper towels. This pulled off a bunch of dark gray residue, so really scrubbed it. Out of the box scent was like mineral oil. Not unpleasant. Placed the steel slab onto middle shelf of pre-heated oven at 375*F for seasoning. (Note: instructions don’t say you need to season steel out of the box, but that residue suggested otherwise.) Scent was basically vegetable oil getting roasted. Seasoned for an hour at temp, then cooled for two hours. Then heated to 550*F full blast for an hour in prep for first pizza dough. Heat blasted to charcoal the semolina flour I used to avoid sticking pizzas to steel. 3 cornmeal Mediterranean-style pizzas with a cracker-like crust right out of the gate. 7 min with good color/texture. Exactly what I was looking for.Let steel cool for two hours, brushed off semolina char and wiped on a thin vegetable oil layer. Put back into shipping box and found it’s permanent storage spot. This plate is shockingly heavy but manageable, cleans easy and does the work. I can’t imagine this in a larger format for handling. Confident this slab will be around longer than I am! Impressed.Purchased at $89.99, below most other big-box retailers. Only one external site was lower by $10, but charged shipping. So Amazon pulls thru on pricing here.Pro tip: close your eyes as you first open your oven door after pre-heating this slab. The heat blast will singe your eyeballs, not kidding. Also, regular kitchen utensil dimensions will not protect your hands from the heat. Mitten up or get tools that have long handles. You’re welcome!
