My first review got flagged for negative cultural references - Yelp doesn't make it clear which ones so I'm reposting with my best guess at what was objectionable removed:
This review is specifically for their sunset rooftop yoga class at The Local Hostel, this is the only class I've taken with them, and after an extremely stressful day I wanted to do some yoga in the sunshine, bought my $25 ticket online, and made my way over.
The vibe was weird from the moment I stepped onto the roof. There was man sitting on the edge of the front desk with my yoga instructor and it wasn't clear if he was an employee of Cosmic or the hostel; he was smoking a blunt and kept talking about how chill the vibe was but didn't make me feel chill. It wasn't a real conversation, he kept telling me to relax, to look at all the people and see how relaxed they were, and every time I tried to speak he would talk over me with more stoned nonsense. I just wanted to check in, so I put my phone onto the table and made extended eye contact with the woman instructor. She asked for my name and email, which I did NOT want to give with this weird rando hovering close enough to touch me. I smiled and held up my phone, and she asked again. Great looking out. I reluctantly gave my info, took a yoga mat as far from anyone as possible, and got myself set up.
I got up to use the bathroom, and the same man asked, "Leaving already?! Where you goin?!" To the bathroom dude, I'm going to empty my bladder, please leave me alone.
The yoga area is separated from the lounge area for hostel guests, and during the class it became clear he wasn't an employee of Cosmic, but just a random dude who decided to insert himself into the class and the instructor wasn't able to control him. He was dancing in the lounge section by himself, periodically yelling things like, "Release the dragon!" It was annoying and out of place.
The instructor started the class with "Well now that summer is almost over" and the audible grown from the people there facing another COVID winter with new mask and vaccine mandates was enough to make her backtrack and say, "We're at the height summer". Don't start a class with negativity like that. As for the yoga itself, the sound system they used had some feedback and quality issues, the roof isn't flat but has lumps and curves that make lying flat or balancing on one foot extremely challenging. The instructor seemed like she was still getting her sea (roof?) legs with her routine, direction, and confidence, which I don't mind, everyone starts somewhere and she was making an effort, that's what counts to me. What was less comfortable was encouraging people to video and photograph and tag the gym on social media during the class. On the one hand, this is how businesses get promoted. On the other, I don't want dudes getting up to take "promotional videos" of my downward dog that I didn't consent to. Also, can we please put the phones away for a YOGA CLASS, if no where else, and unplug during this time?
Maybe the biggest disappointment besides the creeper was the fact that they didn't schedule their class to coordinate with the sunset, the surrounding buildings block it. We had 15 minutes of sun before it set behind the buildings and a chilly shadow descended on the roof. So.....this wasn't a sunset yoga class, this was a post-sunset/twilight yoga class. Not what I would have signed up for.
I'm giving three stars only because this is not a review for the venue itself, they had to work with the hostel who didn't build their roof for yoga and who don't have control over what their guests do (if the dude was even a guest, I really don't know). But I really hated my experience.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Paul F.Queens, NY088Apr 18, 2019
We held our daughter's 5th birthday party at Cosmic Fit Club. It's a great space and they tailored the decorations and music to the theme of the party and had lots of activities for the kids to play with.
They also included an acrobatics class that the parents and kids could join in with. Kids and parents all had an absolute blast.
Joy and Ben couldn't have been more accommodating and were great with the kids on the day. I can't recommend the place highly enough. Thank you so much for a great event.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Albania S.Briarwood, Queens, NY754230Oct 13, 2019
I love this place. The staff is always kind and caring about everyone's needs. I like their human approach while maintaining their professionalism. Ben, Joy and Juliana are just awesome. We have tried their kids classes and the family classes. Always fun and our daughter LOVES THEM. We recently hosted a birthday party there and everyone was beyond pleased. We are grateful to have found this place through a friend. Highly recommend them.

I LOVE this place! I'm pretty much a newbie when it comes to acro & acroyoga but Joy welcomed me in and made me comfortable and excited to take different classes and try new skills & tricks that I never thought my body capable of. (Like seriously, there's tons of flipping and standing on people involved)
It's not only a great place to exercise (and escape from that brutal winter cold), but it's also a wonderful place to meet supportive, active, and compassionate people. Whether you're a newcomer or a pro, Cosmic Fit Club has a place for you. Don't be afraid to give it a try, I'm really glad I did!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dylan M.Queens, Queens, NY06Mar 8, 2020
This place is great! Really awesome community feel to the place. The place has a laid back atmosphere paired with great instruction, that makes it really fun and easy to learn. Ben and Oliana at the Circus class are really friendly and enthusiastic teachers. It's great because I juggle but don't have much experience with other circus arts, but Ben and Oliana are very friendly and proactive about offering me different things to try or learn, so there is no guess work about what I should be doing or whether I should ask for help.
I mostly can only make it to the Circus class but I have heard the other classes are really good as well.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Hisham V.Bryn Mawr, PA67588Oct 11, 2019
Great place to just pop in for a session. I am from out of town and just looking for a place to get a bit of exercise in, popped my head into a core strengthening session and boy did I get my butt kicked. Ive been lifting weights for more than 10 years but these core exercises were unlike any other circuit. Needless to say, joy knows what she is doing and I am very sore writing this review!

I'm relatively new to gymnastics type movement and Cosmic Fit Club has been able to help me learn more about how my body moves in a space that's very inclusive, welcoming and beginner friendly. Super friendly staff, such a wonderful variety of class and a ton of cool events. It makes my trip to queens from New Jersey totally worth it!

The place to come for all things movement! I have taken both acro and yoga classes here. The best part is that they have lines where you can learn standing skills safely. While I'm still somewhat new to a regular acro practice I feel so welcomed here. Brian is great for standing acro! There's also street parking!

Cosmic fit club is a gem. Set on an unassuming block you'll be wowed by the beautiful street art right next door. Likely you'll hear musicians practicing as you enter, I love it.
Cosmic is a welcoming space, they don't want you to join their classes, they want you to join their family. Speaking of classes, they are phenomenal. A favorite of mine is Brian's Sunday AM standing acro class.
Cosmic Fit Club always offers activities around the neighborhood, allowing you to get a feel of the different classes they offer. Classes are more like celebrations, they are always celebrating something, it could be a members birthday, a changing season, the dropping of gas prices... anything. They'll open the studio for play, practice, and friendship. They celebrate all types of art and performance, from body painting, hooping, juggling, dance, calisthenics, LIGHT SABERS!, acroyoga, all types of yoga. Usually there's always a some yummy treats involved! Many Saturday nights they will throw parties where you hang out with your old friends, make new friends, work on your skills, listen to music, take a ride in a space ball (I'm serious), climb ropes and eat. Consent and safety are strongly enforced here. They also have a harness/lines to practice the really advanced tricks.
I'm shy and have a resting bitch face, so I look grumpy and unapproachable before you get to know me. That didn't stop Joy, she made sure that I was happy and enjoying myself She's also SUCH incredibly talented acrobat. The teachers are all friendly and talented. You will learn a lot, you will make new friends, you'll smile, you'll want to come back.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Gazelle B.New York, NY1413May 24, 2017First to Review
